SolarAxe Mini — Important Information & Setup

⚠️ IMPORTANT — COMPATIBLE MINERS

The SolarAxe Mini is pre-configured specifically for BitAxe 601/602 variant miners and other compatible miners designed to operate at approximately 5V.

The Mini's output has been factory-adjusted to account for its internal wiring and components and may supply your miner with approximately:

5.0V–5.6V DC

Before Connecting Any Other Miner

If you choose to use a miner other than a compatible BitAxe 601/602 variant, verify that the miner can safely accept up to approximately 5.6V DC before connecting it to the SolarAxe Mini.

Connecting a miner that is not designed for this voltage range could damage the miner very quickly.

SolarAxe cannot guarantee compatibility with miners outside the intended voltage range. It is the user's responsibility to verify the voltage requirements of any alternate miner before connecting it to the Mini.

If you are unsure whether your miner is compatible, do not connect it. Contact SolarAxe Support first.

Thank you for purchasing a SolarAxe Mini. Please read this page before connecting your miner for the first time.

The SolarAxe Mini is designed to power compatible 5V home miners directly from a solar panel. Because solar conditions can change rapidly, the Mini includes built-in low-voltage protection and a restart delay to help protect your miner during periods of insufficient sunlight.

Quick Setup

Connect your SolarAxe Mini in the following order:

1. Connect the solar extension cable to your solar panel.
Connect the MC4 connectors from the MC4-to-XT60 extension cable to your solar panel.

2. Connect the XT60 connector to the SolarAxe Mini.
Verify that the polarity is correct before making the connection.

3. Connect your miner to the SolarAxe Mini.

The SolarAxe Mini uses a 5.5 × 2.5 mm barrel jack output.

Your Mini includes a 5.5 × 2.5 mm to 5.5 × 2.1 mm power cable.

If your miner uses a 5.5 × 2.5 mm barrel jack, use the included 90-degree 5.5 × 2.1 mm to 5.5 × 2.5 mm adapter between the supplied cable and your miner.

Low-Voltage Protection

Your SolarAxe Mini includes a factory-configured Low Voltage Disconnect (LVD).

Factory LVD Settings

Disconnect Voltage: 9V

If voltage from the solar panel falls to approximately 9V, the Mini will disconnect power from your miner.

This protects the miner from attempting to operate during extremely low-voltage conditions.

Reconnect Voltage: 18V

After an LVD shutdown, power will not reconnect simply because voltage rises slightly above 9V.

The solar input must recover to above 18V before the Mini will reconnect.

This large reconnect window helps prevent your miner from repeatedly attempting to start when there is not enough sunlight available to reliably power it.

Restart Delay

The SolarAxe Mini also contains a restart delay.

When the LVD disconnects and solar voltage later recovers above the reconnect threshold, the Mini will wait approximately:

30 seconds

before sending power back to your miner.

This gives the solar panel and electrical system additional time to stabilize before the miner attempts to boot.

Normal LVD & Delay Behavior

Solar panels react extremely quickly to changes in sunlight.

In most situations, when a cloud significantly shades the panel:

Solar voltage drops → LVD disconnects → cloud passes → voltage recovers above 18V → 30-second delay → mining resumes

This is normal operation.

You May Occasionally Hear Several Clicks

Under certain partial-shading conditions, the LVD may disconnect and reconnect several times in rapid succession.

For example, this may occur if:

  • A person walks in front of the panel.
  • A branch or object temporarily shades part of the panel.
  • A small moving cloud rapidly changes panel output.
  • Part of the panel is temporarily blocked while the remainder remains in strong sunlight.

You may hear the internal relay click several times.

Although the clicking can sound concerning, this behavior can be normal during rapidly changing partial shading.

The panel voltage may be changing extremely quickly around the LVD operating thresholds.

After several clicks, one of two things will normally happen:

If insufficient sunlight remains:
The LVD will completely disconnect and remain disconnected until solar voltage recovers.

If the temporary shading disappears:
The voltage will stabilize and the Mini will remain connected, allowing mining to continue.

DC-DC Converter & Miner Voltage

The SolarAxe Mini contains an adjustable DC-DC buck converter rated for an input range of approximately:

3V–36V DC

However, the Mini's protection system is intentionally configured so your miner does not operate throughout that entire voltage range.

The LVD disconnects the system during low solar-input conditions.

The DC-DC converter has been individually preset before shipment to provide the proper voltage for compatible 5V miners, with consideration given to voltage changes through the Mini's wiring and components.

Expected Miner Voltage

Your miner should normally operate within approximately:

5.0V–5.6V

Do not adjust the DC-DC converter unless specifically instructed by SolarAxe Support.

⚠️ Low or High Voltage Warning

After connecting your miner, check the voltage reported by AxeOS or your miner's operating system.

If your miner displays:

“Danger: Low Voltage”

or if the reported miner voltage is:

Above 5.6V

stop mining immediately and contact SolarAxe Support.

Do not continue operating the miner until the cause has been identified.

Overclocking

The SolarAxe Mini is designed to operate compatible miners between their:

Default operating settings
and
Maximum manufacturer-recognized safe overclock settings

Higher clock speeds require higher current.

Because the Mini operates directly from solar power, custom overclock configurations can cause the miner's voltage to drop under load even when the Mini itself is functioning properly.

Custom Overclocks

If you create a custom overclock beyond normal safe operating limits, you may experience:

  • Low-voltage warnings
  • Miner instability
  • Failed boots
  • Unexpected restarts
  • Excessive current demand
  • Additional heat

Custom overclocking beyond recognized safe operating limits is performed at the user's own risk.

SolarAxe is not responsible for damage to the SolarAxe Mini or the connected miner resulting from custom overclock settings beyond safe operating limits.

Solar Generator — 12V DC Out

Your SolarAxe Mini is also capable of mining from a solar generator or battery system equipped with a 12V DC output.

Using a direct 12V DC output can be more efficient than powering your miner through a standard AC-to-DC power supply, because it avoids converting battery power from DC to AC and then back to DC.

Depending on the equipment being used, this can potentially reduce power conversion losses and usage by approximately:

5–9 watts while mining

Configuration Is Required

The SolarAxe Mini comes pre-configured for direct solar-panel mining.

The factory LVD settings are not intended for operation from a standard 12V DC source.

If you would like to operate your Mini from the 12V DC output of a solar generator or battery, please contact SolarAxe Support before connecting your miner.

Support will provide step-by-step instructions for changing the appropriate settings for 12V DC operation.

Do not use the factory solar-panel LVD configuration for 12V DC operation without first following the provided configuration instructions.

Direct Solar Mining Is Different

The SolarAxe Mini is intentionally a direct-panel solar mining system.

There is no battery maintaining constant input power.

That means changes in:

  • Clouds
  • Shadows
  • Panel angle
  • Time of day
  • Weather
  • Panel temperature
  • Seasonal sunlight

can directly affect your miner.

Your miner shutting down during insufficient sunlight and automatically returning to mining when adequate sunlight returns is expected behavior.

The LVD and restart delay are there specifically to manage these changing solar conditions.
